When you can change your plan

Every fall: October 15–December 7
Each fall, you have a regular time to change plans. The official name is the Annual Enrollment Period. From October 15 to December 7, you can switch between an all-in-one plan (Medicare Advantage) and coverage from the government (Original Medicare). You can change all-in-one plans, or join or change a drug plan (Part D). Changes during this time start January 1.
One more chance: January 1–March 31
If you already have an all-in-one plan (Medicare Advantage), you have another time to make one change at the start of the year. You can switch to a different all-in-one plan or return to coverage from the government (Original Medicare). This time is called Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment. It is only for people already in an all-in-one plan.
When your life changes
Some life events let you change plans outside the regular dates. These times are called Special Enrollment Periods. Examples include moving to a new address, losing other coverage or qualifying for help with costs. Each event has its own rules and dates. Check your options when something changes.
Review your plan each year
Plans can change their costs and coverage every year. Even if you are happy with your plan, looking at your options each fall can help you check that it still meets your needs.
